2009-06-17 - Thank you to Zac Borg who has completed his co-op time here with us at Steckley-Gooderham. Zac proved not only to be a great student but a welcomed addition to the staff. He will be attending the Funeral Services Program at Humber College in the fall. We wish Zac the best and hope that he returns to Steckley-Gooderham as a funeral director one day.

2009-06-17 - Let me introduce myself, my name is Rachel and I'm the concierge at the funeral homes. You may ask yourself, why does a funeral home need a concierge? Firstly, why not? A concierge is someone who helps with whatever queries and needs you may have, and at the very least is someone who will be there to receive guests. The best way to explain what I do is to say I'm a cross between a hotel concierge and a personal assistant for families. Having a death in the family makes for a very emotional time, on top of the arrangements and phone calls a family will have to make it can be extremely difficult and time consuming. This is where I come in to help. I arrange for families to stay in hotels, arrange for private dinners for the family in between visitations or the funeral service, I can arrange to have children or grand children picked up from school. I can and will do pretty much anything to make this time a little easier for your family. When a family comes into the funeral home to arrange the funeral, I come in with my lovely tea cart, complete with tea, coffee, cookies, and hand the family a little folder with my business card and the list of services I can help them with. However; this list is what I like to call a work in progress as it's only a guideline of the services I can provide. Also, the majority of these services are free of charge. Most people don't believe they will require these services, and for some families that will be true. However, you may find yourself becoming overwhelmed with all the things that need to be done. If this is the case, all you have to do is call me at anytime and I will be there to assist you with whatever you need.
