Murray Allen Welch passed away at his home in Barrie on Saturday, April 13th, 2024 at the age of 75. Murray was a great lover of sports and games, particularly of golf, curling, billiards and bridge.
Most will remember Murray for his punny humor, strong sense of conviction, and willingness to speak up. Murray was a dedicated union steward for many years, former president and member of the Lions club, and outspoken constituent on all sorts of issues in local government. So strong was Murray’s belief in doing the right thing that it was often impossible to get him to abandon a bad joke, just cause, social concern, or person in need.
Murray will be dearly missed by his loving (and patient) wife of 51 years, Mary; his two children, Rachael (Adam) and Richard (Kate); his two grandchildren, Samuel and Mina and his brother and sister, Warren and Lorene.
Visitation will take place at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie on Saturday, April 20th, 2024 from 3 – 5 PM, with service to follow in the Chapel on Sunday, April 21st, at 1:30 PM. Guests are invited to remain for a reception gathering in the lounge.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations benefitting the Barrie Food Bank.
