On Friday June 5, 2026, at the age of 96, she passed away peacefully surrounded by the love and devotion of her family. Beloved wife of the late Larry Sanderson (2006). Cherished mother of Cathy (Bill), Gail (Steve), Linda (Lue) and Sue (Garnet). Loving grandmother of Lucas, Lindsay, Jessica, Angela (Mike), Tammy (Brad), Jamie (Steph), Rich and Rob (Dayana). Proud great-grandmother of Shania, Robbie, Giselle, Alessio, Lorenzo, Adrianna and Chelsea.
Audrey was born to Lillian Smith (Blundell) and Herbert Smith on February 6, 1930 and had 3 siblings, Myrl (deceased), Tressa (deceased) and Joan. She grew up in Unionville and met her husband Larry, at a local dance and they were married on May 20, 1950 and built their family home in Victoria Square.
She found great enjoyment spending time at the cottage with family and friends, listening to music, playing games, and making lasting memories for everyone. She loved to dance and play cards and was known as the Skip-Bo Queen as no one could beat her at a game of cards.
Audrey spent over 32 years working at Markham Hydro and had an enormous impact on those she managed during her career. They retired to Alliston and began their years of travel across Canada and the United States.
She will be profoundly remembered and missed by her entire family and extended family and friends.
Visitation will take place at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie on Thursday, June 18, 2026 from 7-9 pm and Friday, June 19, 2026 from 10-11 am. Service will take place on Friday, June 19, 2026 at 11 am. Guests are invited to remain for a reception lunch following the Service. Interment will take place on Friday, June 19, 2026 at 3pm, at the Victoria Square United Church, .
In lieu of flowers, donations in Audrey’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County and are greatly appreciated by the family.
