It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Barbara Leschak on Thursday, July 16, 2026, in her 93rd year. Predeceased by her husband Norman (2008) and her sisters and brothers. Barb and Norm enjoyed 52 years of marriage, and she dedicated her life to creating a warm and nurturing home for her family. She will be sadly missed by her three daughters, Linda, Susanne, Diane, and son David. She was a thoughtful, kind and selfless “Nana” to her twelve grandchildren, Meaghan, Erin, Kristin, Jason, Michael, Melissa, Christopher, Robert, Nicole, Emma, Sean, and Sarah and to her four great-grandchildren, Warren, Willow, Rory and Lainey. We love you Nana! She will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Born in a historical home in Toronto, called ‘Owl House’, to John Archibald Norwell and Martha Anderton, Barbara was very active in many activities which continued throughout her entire life. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family. Her homemade desserts and family feasts were eagerly anticipated by all. Barbara’s love for nature was evident in her beautiful gardens, which she tended for decades. Her true happy place was definitely at the family cottage on the Moon River in Bala. It is here she enjoyed hosting family and friends, being in nature, tackling all sorts of projects, gardening, swimming and boating.
The family would like to thank the caring and compassionate staff on the “Willow” floor at Grove Park Home, Barrie, Ontario.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to Grove Park Home in Barbara’s name would be greatly appreciated.
Visitation will take place at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie on Wednesday, July 22nd, 2026, from 11:30 am until the time of service in the chapel at 12 pm. Guest are invited to remain for a reception inside the lower lounge following the service.
