Peacefully passed at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre on Thursday, December 11th, 2025 at the age of 88 years. Beloved husband of Ying Andrews (née Liang). Loving father of Jodi McDonald, Jonathan Andrews and Justin Andrews and step-father of Xiang Yin Tam. Proud grandfather of Lyndsay McDonald, Jordan McDonald, Madisyn Schmidt, Sebastian Andrews, Sierra Andrews, Brianna and Everly. Will be missed by his son-in-law Rick Schmidt. Dear son-in-law of Wen Zhong Liang and Xian Xing Wu and brother-in-law of Han Hua Liang and Li Liang. Will be missed by extended family members and dear friends.
Ben was many things to many people: a teacher and educator who never really stopped teaching, a scientifically minded intellectual who delighted in asking difficult questions, and a skilled negotiator who could argue his way out of (or into) almost anything. He particularly enjoyed debating atheism, a passion that led him to write two books on the subject and ensured that no dinner conversation was ever entirely dull. When he wasn’t thinking or debating, he was performing or spending his time in the service of others. As the former president of the Kiwanis club and decades long volunteer at the Busby, Ben put the needs of others constantly ahead of his own. Above all, though, his favourite and most important role was that of a father, grandfather and husband.
In keeping with Ben’s wishes cremation will take place. Private family arrangements entrusted to the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home.
