Etter, Charles Gordon

Passed peacefully on September 17th, 2023 at Serenity Retirement Residence in Barrie at the age of 93.  He was predeceased by his beloved wife Alice (2020), married for 67 years.  He is the loving and dedicated father of Bryan (Elizabeth) and Cheryl and cherished grandfather of Kelly and Kristin (Josh D’Alvise), Jamie and Haley.

Gord was born in Eston Saskatchewan and grew up on a farm in his early years.  He moved several times in Saskatchewan and Alberta before moving to Edmonton where he met the love of his life Alice Vlielander and married her there in 1953.  Gord started his career with Firestone in Edmonton in the early fifties and was transferred east to Hamilton a few years later. In the late fifties Gord left Firestone and joined Imperial Oil, where he spent the next 28 years until retirement.

Gord and Alice lived most of their lives in Ontario where they raised their family and spent many weekends camping and waterskiing in the summer and snow skiing in the winter. They retired in Barrie but spent the first tens winters of their retirement in Florida playing lots of golf and enjoying the sunshine.

Gord was an extremely hard worker; he was generous, wise and honest to a fault, and a wonderful role model to his children and grandchildren.  He will be missed and loved by his family forever.

Cremation has taken place, with private family arrangements entrusted to the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Whispering Pines Retirement Home and especially at Barrie Serenity Retirement Residence for their outstanding care and compassion provided to Dad. If desired, donations to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie in memory of Gord would be appreciated by the family.
