It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charles Leonard Surgenor, who departed this life on May 6, 2025, at the age of 89.
Born in Barrie, Ontario, on June 21, 1935, and raised in Orillia, Charles lived a life rooted in love, family, and quiet strength. On June 6, 1959, he married the love of his life, Joy Speers. Their marriage was a shining example of lifelong devotion and partnership.
Charles is deeply mourned and lovingly remembered by Joy, as well as their three children: John (Tammy), Glenn (Carole), and Melanie (Donald). He was a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren and a cherished great-grandfather to nine great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents, Dorothy and Leonard Surgenor, and by his beloved siblings Ruth Bylow (Gordy), Millie Bylow, and Joyce Howell (Larry). He is survived by his two sisters, Mary Foster (Jim) and Judy Lehay (Tom), as well as his brother, Robert Surgenor (Kathy)—whose love and memories of Charles will endure.
Charles’s legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew him. His warmth, wisdom, and gentle presence will be deeply missed. Please join us in honoring the life of Charles Surgenor on Saturday, May 10, 2025at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley Street in Barrie, Ontario. Visitation will be held from 12 pm until the time of Service in the Chapel at 1 pm. Guests are invited to remain for a reception following the Service inside the lower lounge. Your presence and support mean a great deal to the family during this time of remembrance and reflection. All are welcome to attend.
