It is with profound sadness that we advise of the passing of Deryk Cecil Westervelt on October 28, 2022, after a short but courageous battle with Brain Cancer.  Deryk was born September 25, 1969, in Sudbury, Ontario.  Deryk will be forever loved and missed by his wife of 26 years, Stacey Westervelt (nee Sewarun), his adoring kids, Curtis Casserley (Amy), Kayla Westervelt and Zoey Westervelt, he will be missed by his mother, Sharron MacKay (John Kawiuk). Deryk was a loving, patient, gentle and kind husband father and son.  Deryk had many amazing traits, his nicknames were Mr. Fix It or MacGyver, he was able to fix or rig up anything to make life easier for those around him, he enjoyed spending time with his kids, enjoying their accomplishments and camping.  Deryk was a die-hard Toronto Maple Leafs fan and had a passion for fishing.  Deryk’s most recent accomplishment was fulfilling his dream and opening his own business, Westys Equipment.   Deryk will also be missed by his Brother In Law, Chris Sewarun (Melinda), nephew Cory Sewarun and niece Dawn Marie Sewarun as well as his father Morley Westervelt and his siblings, Mandy, Katie, Andrew, Deana and Tracey.  Deryk was also loved by many Aunts and Uncles, Donnie Mackay, Rod Mackay (Lorraine), Neil (Jeannette), Heather Blondin (Mike), Susan Westervelt, Mike (Glenna) Westervelt and many cousins and friends.  Special thanks to Dr. Jacky Lai and the Bayshore Nursing team, his PSW Tayo as well as the team at Sunnybrook.  A celebration of life will take place on Tuesday Nov. 1, 2022, from 1:00-4:00

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer society or the Odette Cancer Centre at Sunnybrook where we spent many hours over the past eight months.

Condolences
