NORTHRUP, Devon Michael

It is with profound sadness that the family of Police Constable Devon Michael Northrup, announce his most tragic and heroic loss of life while in the line of duty on Tuesday, October 11th, 2022 at the age of 33.

Devon was the honoured son of Ron and Heather Northrup, loving spouse of Annie Romard, adored little brother of Brock Northrup, admired brother-in-law of Elise Foran, and “silly uncle Devon” to Liam and Kinsley Northrup.  He will be fondly remembered by his aunts, uncles, cousins, and many long-time friends.  His loss will forever resonate profoundly within his police family at the South Simcoe Police service, and throughout numerous police services across Ontario.

Devon’s determination was most apparent within his career as a police officer.  From the decision he first made while still in high school, through to his deep involvement with the community and his ongoing commitment to those coping with mental health challenges, his passion and dedication continued to provide an unrelenting source of motivation.  No challenge would stand in his way.  He was “the rock” to his friends.  To his family, he was their “whole world.”  To many whom he encountered in crisis, he was a “life-saver”, even earning two professional accolades for his devotion.  Devon enjoyed food, sharing meals with family and friends, making everyone laugh, and wrapping his “big arms” around his mom and dad whenever they were together.  He was very passionate about the Fallen Officers Memorial, and now, sadly, we recognize Devon amongst the ‘honoured fallen heroes.’

The family wishes to take this opportunity to thank the members of the police families and local communities for the incredible outpouring of love and support, in response to our devastating loss. Funeral procession details will be made available for members of the public wishing to show their support along the route.

Visitation will take place at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie on Wednesday, October 19th, 2022 from 10 A.M. - 12 P.M. and from 2 P.M. to 4 P.M. Please respect that the visitations are reserved for family and close friends.

Constable Northrup’s private memorial service will be held at the Sadlon Arena, 555 Bayview Dr., Barrie, on Thursday, October 20th, 2022 at 11 A.M.  Personal attendance is limited to family and police officers.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to a special Scholarship Fund being established. Details will be available shortly.
