MUSSELMAN, Garret Donald

Declined and passed unexpectedly on Monday, January 22nd, 2024 at the age of 95.  Beloved husband of Marjorie (nee Tierney) for 68 years.  Loving father of Daniel, Paul (Violette), and Grant.  Proud grandfather of Liza (Mark), Amelia (Shawn), Danielle, Tyler, Amanda, and Devin.  Delighted great grandfather of Ava and Scarlet.  Will be missed by his sister-in-law Ard and her husband John, and the families of Marjorie’s predeceased sisters.  Don will be missed by his extended family, friends, and by the staff and residents at Amica Little Lake, where he lived for the past seven years.

Don was born in Montreal, Quebec on August 30th, 1928.  His family moved to Windsor where he completed high school and later attended the Society of Arts and Crafts in Detroit Michigan to obtain his formal art training.  Here is where he met Marjorie -- the love of his life -- who he soon married in 1950, before moving to Toronto to start their life together.

Don was an avid swimmer and took up scuba diving in his fifties during a period when he and his wife Marjorie enjoyed traveling the world.  He spent his career as a commercial artist, initially drawing cars for advertising agencies but eventually expanded his talents until he ran his own advertising agency.  He completed his career working for Toyota as the National Advertising / Sales Promotion Manager at their head office in Toronto.

Don pursued his love for art by first experimenting with oils, acrylics, pen and ink, before discovering a passion for water colour, leaving behind a large legacy of paintings and prints, even having some of his works made into greeting cards.  Don was exhibited in Westport, Perth, Smith Falls, Kingston, and Brockville.

Cremation has taken place with private family arrangements entrusted to the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley Street, Barrie.
