Passed away peacefully at the age of 99 at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie on Tuesday, April 29th, 2025.
Dorothy was born in 1926 in St. Stephen, NB, to Stirling and Eliza Flewelling (predeceased). Moved to Sudbury, ON, where she attended high school, and then continued her education graduating as a registered nurse (RN). She resided primarily in Toronto, Thornhill, and in retirement moved to Barrie.
Married to the late John Williamson for 54 years until his passing in 2006, she is survived by her two sons; Gary and Ward (Susan), her 5 grandchildren; Cindy (Danny De Boer), David, Shane (Christina), Pamela, and Amanda, as well as 4 great grandchildren; Abby and Brody (De Boer), Ellie and Lilah (Williamson).
Predeceased by her 4 siblings, Robert, Philip, Shirley (Kelland) and Bennett.
Dorothy was a proud registered nurse (RN) for more than 40 years. She started her career with the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) and finished at North York General. In addition to sewing, quilting, and crafts, Dorothy enjoyed playing various card games including cribbage, bridge, and forty-fives. Her loved ones will forever cherish the time spent together making and sharing homemade molasses cookies and brown bread.
Dorothy will be sadly missed by her extended family members and dear friends.
In keeping with Dorothy’s wishes cremation has taken place. She will be laid to rest this spring at the Barrie Union Cemetery, 338 Sunnidale Rd., Barrie, ON. A celebration of life to be also held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Arthritis Society Canada in Dorothy’s memory would be greatly appreciated by the family.
