With profound sadness, we share the news of Edward James McGrath's passing on Saturday, December 30th, 2023, in Barrie. At 78 years old, his departure was unexpected, leaving a void in the hearts of many. Ed was the cherished husband of Collette Chaput-McGrath, and a source of endless love and guidance as a father to Christine (Shayne) Miller, Mike McGrath, Sandra (Antoine Samson) McGrath, and as a stepfather to Gavin (Britnee) Hodgson, Abbie (Martin) Hodgson VanEssen, and Tyler MacDonald. He was a proud and adoring grandfather and papa to Levi, Victoria, Ben, Lucas, Julia, Keegan, Corben, Tyler, Declan, Daxton, Adelaide, Aven, Raine, and Cedar. Ed was the caring brother of Anne Carthy (the late Jim) and is preceded in passing by his brother Douglas McGrath. His warmth, wisdom, and kindness will be deeply missed by his extended family and a wide circle of dear friends.
Ed had a love of travel and adventure, he loved motorcycles and hitting the open road on trips. He loved to laugh and he had a magical way of having those around him feel seen and heard – to know Ed was to be a friend. But most of all, he loved and was deeply devoted to his family.
In memory of Ed's vibrant life and in accordance with his wishes, a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 6th, 2024, from 1-4 pm at the Southshore Community Centre, 205 Lakeshore Dr., Barrie, Ontario. This event will honor his legacy and the joy he brought to all our lives. Arrangements entrusted to the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie.
