It’s with deep sadness that the family announces her passing on Thursday, October 29th, 2026, in Barrie at the age of 88 years. Esmeralda is reunited with her husband Domenic. Loving mother of Dalia and Joe, Maria, Roy, and Alfredo and Anna. Proud Grandmother of Destiny and Desiree; Marlene, Dilia, Monica, and Daniel; Adam, Brittney, and Dean; Ashley and Austin; and Great Grandmother to Isaiah and Xavier, Jaiden, Malina, Samantha, Madeline and Leo, and Sonny. Dear sister of Fernanda, Durvalina, Joao Luis, Fernando, and Eduardo. Predeceased by her parents Luis and Maria Lopes.
Born and raised on the Azores islands, Esmeralda lived a beautiful life with her siblings before moving to Toronto in 1970 with three kids in tow and one on the way. Esmeralda had a very fulfilling life filled with friendships, travel, faith, and delicious Portuguese food. She enjoyed spending her days cooking, listening to fado, going to the casino, watching movies, colouring, and spending time with her loved ones. She loved her kids and grandkids dearly and did everything for them. Esmeralda embodied what it meant to be a holy woman. She was the best mom, grandmother, friend, sister, and daughter to all that knew her. She will be missed dearly and remembered always.
Visitation will take place at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie on Monday, November 2nd, 2026, from 11 am – 3 pm. Funeral Mass will take place at the St. John Vianney Church 13 Balwin Lane, Barrie on Tuesday, November 3rd, 2026 at 11 am. Interment will take place at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, 208 Sunnidale Rd., following the Funeral Mass. Condolence messages may be left for the family at www.steckleygooderham.com
