It is with deep sadness that the family announces the unexpected passing of Francisco Edgar on Sunday, July 5th, 2026, at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie.
Francisco Edgar is now reunited with his beloved wife Celinda. Loving father of Maricela (Roy), Edgardo, and Tania (Brian). Proud grandfather of Grace Lucia-Marie. Dear brother of Hazel and Herbert. Predeceased by his parents Emilio and Maria Luisa, his brothers Rafael and Nelson. Francisco Edgar will be deeply missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Francisco Edgar was born in Chalatenango, El Salvador. He studied at the University of Kansas and in Cardiff, Wales. He obtained a university degree in Education and English from the National University of El Salvador, and had a Master's degree in Education.
He came to Canada with his family in 1985. He worked as a university professor for almost 30 years, teaching Pedagogy, the Psychology of Education, English as a Second Language, and Spanish Literature. He was also a Court Interpreter. He was a devout Catholic and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Francisco Edgar was a loving, dedicated husband and father. He liked the country life and nature. He enjoyed going camping and fishing with his brothers. He was a dreamer with a whimsical sense of humour.
He will be remembered for his spirituality, caring nature, kindness, quiet strength, and patience.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, July 13th, 2026, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Parish, 65 Amelia Street, Barrie with
interment to follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, 208 Sunnidale Road, Barrie.
