It is with a heavy heart that we announce the unexpected passing of George Pater at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre on Sunday, March 1st, 2026, at the age of 70, in the care of his daughters and the RVH ICU staff.

Beloved father of Charlotte Pater (Adam) and Johanne Douma (Jon). Proud grandfather of Audrey, Dylan, Amelia, and Charlie. Dear brother of Steve (Helen) and uncle of Ashiana. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him.

Born in Hamilton, George later made his home in Barrie, where he was drawn to the beauty of the waterfront and the community he grew to love. He was a dedicated father and teacher at Eastview Secondary School, where he shared his knowledge and love of mechanics with the many students he taught over the years.

George shared a lifelong love of Mickey Mouse and was deeply inspired by the story of Walt Disney, believing in dreams, creativity, imagination, and fun at any age.

He enjoyed working and creating with his hands, rollerblading, hiking, the beach, and camping—embracing the outdoors whenever he could. Above all else, he cherished his family, finding his greatest joy and comfort in spending time with his beloved daughters and grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Mill Creek Care Centre for their compassion, love, and support of George, and the RVH ICU staff for their caring support in his final days.

Visitation will take place at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie, on Saturday, March 14th, 2026, from 10 a.m. until the time of service in the chapel at 11 a.m. Guests are invited to remain for a reception following the service in the lower lounge.

Memorial donations may be made to BIS Brain Injury Support, CAMH Simcoe County, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation and are greatly appreciated by the family.

Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.steckleygooderham.com

George’s presence will be deeply missed, but his love and imagination will remain with us always.

"All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them."

— Walt Disney
