George Remington of Barrie, died peacefully on June 10 at the age of 87.  George was a loving husband to Lynne, father, brother, uncle, great uncle, grandfather, great grandfather and loyal friend to many.

George was a true renaissance man.  He had a brilliant mind and was a life long learner. At the age of 80 he was accepted at a university to do a Masters in Nuclear Engineering but was unable to attend due to health and distance issues.   He was an avid reader from the age of three until his death usually reading at least one book a day and sometimes more.  He was a highly respected electrical, instrumentation and commissioning engineer and worked in 18 different countries throughout his life. George was an avid boater but his real passion was building boats.  He built 33 boats in his lifetime.  He was a kind and loving man who gave back to others whenever he could.  His passion for learning extended to helping three young people from the same family in Mexico get a university education. When in Mexico George could often be found tutoring students in Math and English.  George believed that education was the way out of poverty and he was right.  George was always there to help someone design, build or repair whatever needed doing.  He left this world better than he found it.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Private family arrangements have been entrusted to the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie.

If desired, donations in George’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society and are greatly appreciated.
