Our dearly loved Gloria passed away quietly and gently in early evening, June 3, at Hospice Simcoe, in Barrie. Gloria’s entire life was one of caring, kindhearted, loyal love towards her family and close friends. Her life exemplified her love for her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Gloria was born in Barrie to parents Lenora (Harris) and Vernon Jennett (both predeceased), and a much anticipated sister for Eleanor (Jim Magie, predeceased).
She is survived by nieces Jennifer Martin (Vernon), Suzanne Magie and nephew Fred Magie (Melanie Walter), great nieces Ellen Logan (Sean), Giselle Magie and great nephews Matthew Martin, William Martin, Sebastian Magie, Frédéric Dubuc and Félix Dubuc and great great nephew Jeremiah Logan and great great niece Nora Logan.
She is also survived by her chosen daughter Dr. Cristina Catallo (John Stephenson) and Nana "Gogie" to Jackson and Alexander Stephenson.
She will be greatly missed by close friends Cecille Bunford and Susan Rodgers.
Gloria, an excellent student, was educated in Thornton public school, Barrie Central Collegiate and graduated from Western University and Toronto Teachers College. She enjoyed a full teaching career at St James High School in Guelph ON and a long retirement in Guelph and later returned to live in her home town, Barrie. Here, she cared for her beloved Mother in her waning years.
Gloria was an accomplished musician who played piano and trumpet in Barrie Collegiate Band and was privileged to travel with the band to the Seattle World Fair in 1962. She also was an avid gardener and enjoyed planning and planting several gorgeous landscape projects to enhance her three homes in Guelph and Barrie.
Gloria also was an enthusiastic and skilled participant in many sports including curling, golf and skiing.
However, Gloria’s great love and passion was her family and friends. Those of us in this group who received so much from her are grieving her passing and will miss her so much. However, we are thankful that we have had her with us and that God granted her seven years of miraculous remission during her almost nine year battle with brain cancer.
Special thanks to all who assisted her on this part of her life’s journey especially Princess Margaret brain tumour division, Dr. Warren Mason, Barrieview Retirement Home, Hospice Simcoe, and Dr. Kerstin Mossman.
