On April 7, H. Cameron “Cam” Campbell passed away peacefully at Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie surrounded by loved ones.

Cam was born in Picton, Ontario, in 1943. As an “Air Force brat,” he spent much of his childhood living throughout Europe before returning to Orillia.  He attended ODCVI and Park Street high schools in Orillia where many of his sporting records still stand today. In 1964, he joined the Air Force, serving as an Airman First Class until 1966. Cam married Claire, the love of his life, on February 5, beginning a remarkable journey together that spanned more than 60 years.

Cam began his career with Bell Canada, in 1966, where he worked for more than 41 years, forming lasting friendships along the way. He was deeply committed to giving back to his community, volunteering with St. John Ambulance. In recognition of his service, he was awarded the Medal of the Order of St. John as a Serving Member. He also served as Vice President of the local Union, where he was a dedicated advocate for his colleagues.

Cam will be deeply missed by his wife and best friend of 60 years, Claire, his daughters, Cathy (Barry) and Corrinna; and his cherished grandchildren, Ryan Banting (Katriona), Bradley Banting (Meghan), and Cassandra Banting. He was a proud and loving great-grandfather to Lane, Dean, and Elinor Banting.

He was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Jeanne Campbell, and his brothers, Denis (Toni) and Gary (Irene). He will be forever missed by his sister, Charlene Genereux (Garry), and Andrew Gavin (Yan Meng Li).

Cam will also be missed by his Cooper family In-laws and especially his friend and brother-in-law John Cooper who introduced him to the love of his life.

Cam was known for his warm smile, kind words, and generous spirit. He became an honorary father, uncle, and grandfather to many, and was especially known for his heartfelt hugs, always given freely and in abundance. He made and kept his lifelong friends.  His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
