WEIR, Harvey “Kemp”

Passed away peacefully with family by his side on Thursday, November 11th, 2021.  Kemp was in his 74th year and fought a short battle with cancer.  Cherished father of Jim (Paige), Rob (Katie), and Ryan (Kara).  Treasured Papa of Meghan Brown, Aidan Brown, Logan Weir, Bronxton Weir, Aidan Quinn, and Brendan Quinn.  Kemp will be sadly missed by his mother Dorothy Weir (nee Fisher), little brother Al Weir (Wendy), and niece Amanda.  He was predeceased by his father Harvey John Weir.

Kemp served as a police officer with the Ontario Provincial Police for 30 years which included posts at detachments in Iroquois Falls, Moose Factory Island, Oak Ridges, Wawa, and Sault Ste Marie.  Kemp spent almost a decade in the Physical Surveillance Unit and finished his career in the VIP Security Section.  After retirement, Kemp was a professor in the Police Foundations program at Seneca College for over 15 years.  Kemp’s passions were riding his motorcycle and spending time with close friends and family.  He was a large man with an infectious laugh and a crushing handshake.  "Gone but not forgotten.”

Visitation will take place at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie on Saturday, November 27th, 2021 from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.  An intimate service will be held in the Chapel at 2 p.m. with livestream available to the public.  Masks, physical distancing, and capacity limitations are mandatory.  Following the service, friends are invited to join in celebrating Kemp’s life at Tiff’s Bar & Restaurant, 29 Anne St. S., Barrie.

If desired, donations in Kemp’s memory may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion and are greatly appreciated by the family.
