It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Helen Edith Wakelin, who passed away in Barrie, Ontario, on August 17, 2026, at the age of 81. Helen was born in Amherst, Nova Scotia, on November 12, 1944.

Beloved wife of James Wakelin, with whom she shared a lifetime of love, family and wonderful memories. Loving mother of Daniel (Wendy), Jim (the late Heather), and Rob (Candace). Proud and devoted grandmother of Nicole (Jason), David, Elizabeth (Aidan), Ryan, Emily, Garrett, Madison, Olivia, Avery, Owen, and Adrianna. Helen will also be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her extended family on the East Coast.

Helen and James's story began many years ago when James, then a corporal in the army, visited the ice cream shop where Helen worked. A chance meeting soon blossomed into love, and together they began a life and family that would remain at the centre of Helen's world.

Throughout their years together, Helen worked side by side with James in the family business. Their partnership extended far beyond work, and together they built a life filled with family, friendship and many happy memories.

Helen especially enjoyed spending time on the water and had a great love of boating. Many wonderful times were spent at the marina, where she formed friendships that she treasured. She will be greatly missed by her many friends there.

Above all else, Helen loved her family. Her grandchildren held an especially dear place in her heart, and she took tremendous pride and joy in each and every one of them. The love she had for her family and the memories they created together will remain a lasting part of her legacy.

In accordance with Helen's wishes, cremation will take place, followed by a private family service. Arrangements entrusted to the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Helen's memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County.

Helen will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by all whose lives she touched.
