Peacefully passed at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre on Monday, April 6th, 2026, at the age of 89 years. Beloved wife of the late Reinhard Witzmann (2007). Predeceased by her parents Franz and Marie Eichinger. Dear sister of Frieda Pichler, Hilda Lischak, Waltraud Hutter, the late Maria Feuchtl, Franz Eichinger and Erich Eichinger. Will be sadly missed by her Godson Martin Schulz, long time friend Charlotte Schulz, Ronald Fred Durstberger (grandnephew of Reinhard) and Herbert Maria Witzmann (nephew of Reinhard).

Irma came to Canada from her native Austria in 1957 at the age of 20 and married her husband Reinhard in 1958.  After living in Toronto and working as a floral designer, and later owing her own Florist shop, she retired in 1996.  Irma and Reinhard retired to Barrie in 2001. Sadly, their retirement did not go as planned as Reinhard passed in 2007 at the age of 71.   Irma was not deterred, and determined to live a full life, she often travelled on her own, visiting her family in Austria and taking cruises and trips to exotic locales where she was always quick to make new friends. Her love of floral design and decorating kept her home beautifully decked out for every season and holiday. She volunteered to decorate the lobby in her building for Christmas every year and was active in the building’s social events.  When age took its inevitable toll, she moved to the Waterford Retirement Home in August of 2025 and spent her time there earning a reputation as a “sweetheart”.  Even as her condition became more difficult, she was always in good spirits, being of the view that complaining and being unhappy would only make things worse.

Visitation will take place at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie on Friday, April 17th, 2026, from 11 am until the time of service in the Chapel at 12 pm. The service will be livestreamed and recorded and will be made available here. Guests are invited to remain for a reception following the service inside the lower lounge or are welcome to attend only the reception if they prefer. In keeping with Irma’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial donations may be made to the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (Barrie Hospital) or Doctors Without Borders and are greatly appreciated by the family.
