It is with abundant love and sadness that we announce the passing of John Hillock on May 9, 2025. John was a loving father, grandfather, son, brother and friend.
If you knew John (“Johnny”), you knew a man who loved to have a good time. From his teenage summers at Big Bay Point to his college days in Michigan, and later, weekends aboard his boat — the “Auto Approval” — on Lake Simcoe, he was always surrounded by friends, family, and laughter.
John was a respected car salesman who spent many years as a sales manager in Barrie and across the GTA. He was adored by his customers and colleagues and made many lifelong friends through his work.
John loved to golf and went on many memorable golf trips over the years with friends. He also enjoyed boating and spent countless weekends out on the water, often cruising across the lake. A lifelong sports fan, John especially loved watching hockey and baseball, and he proudly cheered on the Toronto Maple Leafs every season.
John is deeply missed by his children, Rebecca (Kevin) and Thomas (Amanda); his granddaughter, Elyse; his mother, Jean; his brother, Jim (Joanne); his niece, Shannon; and many extended family members.
Family and friends are invited to join us for a visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service to celebrate John’s life at 11:00 a.m. on May 29, 2025, at Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie. A reception will follow from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m.
