Katarzyna (Kathy) Baskiewicz - December 3, 1930 – February 4, 2023

Passed away peacefully at home, in her 93rd year. Predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Karol (Karl) Baskiewicz. Survived by her daughter Martusha (Jim) Doyle, and son Roy K. Baskiewicz, all of Barrie. Proud ‘Baba’ to five grandchildren: Jamie (Emily), Katie (Shane), Robyn, Roy (Celeste), and Lyndsy (Joe). Great Baba to Lyla, Oakley, Evelyn and Luna. Special aunt to Mary and Bob Carter and family. Also loved by many nieces and nephews.

Kathy immigrated to Canada in 1959, with husband Karl and daughter Martusha in tow. Son Roy was born shortly after they arrived. They settled in Barrie, joining her sister Mary Shewchuk (American Hotel) and family. Through hard work and perseverance, they built their family a good life.

Kathy was an early member (since 1966) of the Polish Alliance Ladies Circle Barrie-Angus. She loved to cook for dinners and meetings at the hall. She was a proud member, who enjoyed dressing up in her homeland’s traditional garb for special events! She also liked to make flowers to decorate the hall and give to everyone.

She enjoyed socializing, had many friends and family that were always welcome to share the delicious homemade dishes she enjoyed cooking. “Eat, Eat!” was her request at mealtime!

Kathy and Karl were blessed to spend some 30 winters in Florida; twenty-five of those were at South Pasadena Mobile Home Park. There, they forged more lasting friendships. Kathy enjoyed the social life, walking the park early mornings with friends, helping with dinners and events, making corsages and centerpieces. Mostly, she enjoyed dressing up and attending parties and events at the Rec Centre.

And Kathy loved her bling – the brighter, the more sequins, the happier she was!

Our family would like to express our gratitude to the friends and the many caregivers who helped us look after Mamo / Mom / Baba over this past year. Thank you, Dr. Mossman, Dr. Poirier and Donna; Home & Community Care Linda and Palliative Care Julia; St. Elizabeth (SE Health): PSW Alison, Nurses our Krystal (with a K!), Bobbie, and Cindy; from the Alzheimer Society – Heidi and volunteer Cathy; CareRX Pharmacy Donna, Karen and Ben; Friends Janina, Lucy and Jane; and all our good friends who kept in touch through cards and phone calls.

Visitation will take place at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie on Tuesday, February 7th, 2023 from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Spirit Parish, 650 Essa Rd., Barrie on Wednesday, February 8th at 10 AM, followed by interment at St. Mary’s cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society or charity of your choice.

Kathy will be greatly missed by those who knew her. She wanted only the best for everyone.

In her words, “Be happy, be healthy, Have fun!

“Thanks a Million!”
