Passed away peacefully with family by his side at the Campbell House Hospice, Collingwood, on October 7th, 2025 at the age of 43. Michael will be sadly missed by his beloved wife Kyla Cotton (Mazza), his cherished sons Rocco and Dominic, and his loving parents, Mike and Martina Mazza. Dear brother of Rosanna (Kian), Maria (Shane), and Joe (Maria Teresa). Grandson of Maria and the Late Giuseppe Caro, and of the late Rosa and Leonardo Mazza. Also predeceased by Manfredo Caro, who had married Maria following Giuseppe’s passing and who deeply loved and guided Michael, becoming a cherished grandfather figure in his life. Uncle to Francesca, Giles, Chiara, Emilia, Christian, Leo, and Ben. Predeceased by his mother-in-law Marilyn Assance, and by his step father-in-law Allan Assance. Survived by his father-in-law Larry Cotton, as well as his brothers-in-law Matthew and David Cotton.
Mike was a devoted husband, dad, brother and son. He was a multi-dimensional person; deeply empathetic, a family man, adventurous, optimistic, positive, a critical thinker, scientific, a traveler, a fisherman, beekeeper, gardener and naturalist, and was incredibly hard working. Most significantly, he was a fighter. He outlived many prognoses since first being diagnosed with cancer 2022 and eventually succumbing to the battle.
Visitation will take place at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie on Saturday, October 18 from 2 – 4 PM, followed by service in the Chapel at 4 PM. Guests are invited to remain for a reception gathering in the lounge.

Mike è stato un marito, padre, fratello e figlio devoto. Era una persona poliedrica: profondamente empatico, uomo di famiglia, avventuroso, ottimista, positivo, pensatore critico, scientifico, viaggiatore, pescatore, apicoltore, giardiniere e naturalista, e incredibilmente laborioso. Ma soprattutto, è stato un combattente. Ha superato molte prognosi da quando gli è stato diagnosticato il cancro nel 2022, fino a quando ha ceduto alla malattia.
