Patricia Mary Torpey passed away on April 15, 2026, in Barrie, Ontario. Known to most as Patti, a woman of unmistakable style and spirit, she lived with fierce independence and an eye for beauty that defined every chapter of her life.

Patricia is now reunited with her beloved husband, Larry, and her siblings, Linda Remmer (Ross) and David Coughlin. Her legacy is carried forward by her children, Jamie (Ligita), Melissa (Suat), and Brendan, as well as her grandchildren, Zehra, Leyla, Vanessa, and Viktorija, who have no shortage of "Grandma stories" to keep her adventurous spirit alive. She will also be deeply missed by her brothers, Michael (Anne) and Wayne Coughlin.

Born in Northallerton, England, and arriving in Canada as an infant, Patricia possessed an innate appreciation for history and the stories found in beautiful things. As a talented interior designer, she didn’t just inhabit houses; she transformed them. She had the rare gift of turning any house into a truly beautiful space and a keen eye for the smallest details. She channeled these talents into a successful career and her signature line, Patrician Linens, at Hudson’s Bay.

Patricia possessed a boundless love for travel and a passion for adventure. She explored many beautiful countries throughout her life, always seeking out art, culture, and new experiences. This curiosity eventually led her back to England later in life to immerse herself in Art History at the Smithsonian Art Institute.

Beyond her love for art, Patricia possessed a truly inquisitive nature and a genuine interest in the people around her. She had a remarkable way of striking up a conversation with a complete stranger and returning from an adventure with their entire life story in hand. She didn't just collect antiques; she collected connections, finding the "history" in everyone she met.

Patricia had a deep and instinctive love of beauty in all its forms. It was a love that never left her, even in the simplest moments. This passion occasionally led her to pull over along the side of the road, or perhaps admire a neighbour’s garden a little too closely, gathering a few flowers to bring that beauty home with her.

Patricia lived with a distinct sense of style and presence, paired with a spirited and expressive nature that left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. While her fierce, loving, and adventurous heart will be deeply missed, her influence remains in the beauty she created and the vibrant stories she left behind.

We take comfort in knowing she is once again by Larry’s side, likely already planning their next great adventure together!

Visitation will take place at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie on Saturday, May 2, 2026 from 11 am until the time of service in the Chapel at 12 pm. Guests are invited to remain for a reception following the service inside the lower lounge. In keeping with Patti’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society and are greatly appreciated by the family.
