Passed away peacefully at Royal Victoria Hospital surrounded by family on Sunday, August 10th, 2025, in her 91st year.
Born in Ottawa to Gertrude and Harry Hopper, Ruth lived a long and full life marked by her deep kindness and a wonderful sense of humour. She married John in August of 1957 and they shared over 60 years of marriage.
Ruth was a talented baker and spent many hours in her kitchen baking delicious desserts for her family and friends. She had a passion for politics and had many “Letters to the editor” published in newspapers both locally and across the country.
Ruth is now reunited with her late husband John. Loving mother of Gregory (Angela) and Catherine (Andrew). Cherished grandmother of Noah. Dear sister of John Hopper (Barbara) and the late Barbara Cameron. Ruth will be deeply missed by her lifelong friends. A special thanks to the staff at RVH for their compassion and care. We also appreciate the wonderful staff at Grove Park Home and all of the amazing personal support workers who have cared for Ruth in the past. A graveside service will take place on Monday August 18th, 2025 at 11:30am at the Barrie Union Cemetery, 338 Sunnidale Rd., Barrie.
