Teresa Hanchett
(1962-2021)

Teresa (McGuire) Hanchett died peacefully at home in Innisfil, Ontario on August 6, 2021, due to complications from metastatic breast cancer. She died as she lived, surrounded by the strength and devotion of her two daughters, her husband and the love of family and friends.

To all those who loved her, Teresa will be remembered most for her kindness and generosity to family, friends and even strangers in need and, especially, for all that she did to take care of the people she loved.

She was the ultimate family caregiver. She was the one of four siblings who chose to live all of her life close to her Mom and Dad and took extraordinary care of them as they aged and faced serious illnesses. She was proud of her role as a caregiver and her family was grateful for her dedication to it. She took good care of her two sisters when they became ill, even as she was living with cancer herself for the last nine years. And she was a devoted mother to two cherished daughters and grandmother to her beloved grandson and a caring wife. She didn’t let her own illness prevent her from helping them all whenever they needed her until just a few short weeks ago when she was no longer able. The list of other people she helped care for, beyond her immediate family, is a long one.

Teresa never let cancer get in the way of living life with a smile, finding humour in the world and offering a helping hand to others. She was the heart of family gatherings and committed to keeping in touch with everyone in her great big extended family. All of them, as well as her wide circle of friends knew her for her easy laugh, her sense of fun and her fondness for all things Irish.

Born in Toronto, Ontario on April 8th, 1962 she was the third of four children born to the late John and Gretta McGuire. Shortly after graduating from Downsview High School she married and moved to Innisfil, where her parents planned to retire, to start and raise her own family which she did while working as a senior human resources manager with private sector companies.

She is survived by and will be deeply missed by her two daughters, Allison and Ashley Hanchett, her husband Shane Hanchett, her grandson Jaxon McBean, her sister Mary McGuire, her brother John McGuire (Rina) her many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles around the world, as well as her many loyal friends in Barrie and beyond. Besides her parents, she is pre-deceased by her sister Bridgid Davidson.

Viewing will take place at Steckley Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie on Friday, August 13, 2021 from 10:30-12:30 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at St. John Vianney Church, 13 Baldwin Lane, Barrie, Ontario on Friday, August 13, 2021 at 1 p.m. A livestream of the funeral mass will be available at: http://www.stjohnvianney.ca/livestream.html Online condolences and memories may be left at www.steckleygooderham.com
