Victoria Moran (nee Welguz), age 92, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2024 at Coleman Care Center, Barrie. She is survived by her two children, Liz Moran-Murray (Saskatoon) and James Moran and spouse Marg Moran (Barrie). Victoria was a proud Grandma to Carolyn Murray (Jay Bauer), Hannah Murray (Ryan Shirley), Spencer Moran (Nicole Moran), and Nicholas Moran (Sarah Gould). She was predeceased by her husband, Don Moran, in 2007 as well as her parents, Victor and Anastasia, and her younger siblings, Lenora Young and Ernest Welguz.

Victoria was born in Edmonton Alberta on November 24, 1931. She grew up in the era of the Great Depression and WW2, while her father served in the Royal Canadian Navy. Victoria graduated from the University of Alberta in 1953 with a BSc in Biochemistry and was proud of her work as a research chemist in Edmonton’s petrochemical industry. The impact of WW 2 created new opportunities for women in non-gender traditional areas of work which Victoria embraced. She was an active member of the Barrie chapter of the University Women’s Club for many decades and her intellectual curiosity led to completing her M.Ed at the University of Toronto in 1981. Music was another passion and she completed studies in piano, pipe organ and voice with the Royal Conservatory of Music. This led her to her service as the organist and choir director at St. Giles Anglican Church in Barrie for several years. Later on, she enjoyed singing with the King Edward Choir.

Her family is enormously grateful to all the staff at the Coleman Care Centre for the exemplary care she received over the past 6 years.

The funeral service will be a private ceremony for family with spring internment at Barrie Union Cemetery.

Donations may be made to a GoFundMe set up to raise money for a Memorial Bench that will be placed at the Coleman Care Center.
