Peacefully passed at the Lakeside Retirement Residence in Innisfil on Friday, October 31, 2025 at the age of 88 years. Beloved husband of the late Elaine Tate (2025). Loving father of Timothy Tate, Scott Tate (Keith Trudell), Nicole Gillingwater (Jeffery) and the late Jody Tate (1971). Dear grandfather of Kailyn Tate. Will be missed by extended family members and dear friends.

Bill and Elaine married in 1960 at St. John Vianney’s Church and began their family of four children; Tim, Jody, Scott, and Nicole. The early years of their marriage were spent in the Brampton area where Bill was employed at American Motors. Returning to their home town in 1969, the located their home here in the east end of Barrie which is still the family home today.

He was an active sports enthusiast who played, golf, baseball, hockey, curling and even hunted in his earlier years. After his retirement from American Motors, Bill worked as the custodian of St. Mary’s Church for over ten years. He was a volunteer at Royal Victoria Hospital in PACU for many years.  In his later retirement years, Bill and Elaine spent many winters in Arizona and summers at the family cottage.

Visitation will take place at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie on Friday, November 7th, 2025 from 7-9 pm. Funeral Mass will take place at the St. Mary’s Church, 65 Amelia St., Barrie on Saturday, November 8th, 2025 at 10 am. Interment to follow at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, 208 Sunnidale Rd., Barrie at 11 am. Guests are invited to the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie for a reception following the interment. For those who do not wish to attend the cemetery, but would like to take part in the reception, please make your way directly to the Funeral Home following the Funeral Mass and await the families return. Warm coffee and tea will be available during this time.
